Companies House Identity Verification
Companies House Identity Verification – A new legal requirement
Identity verification is a new legal requirement that all company directors, persons of significant control (PSCs) and partners of businesses listed on Companies House must comply with.
From 18 November 2025, existing directors and the equivalent of a director (such as members, general partners and managing officers) will need to confirm that they have verified their identity when their company/LLP's next annual confirmation statement is filed.
The date PSCs need to confirm that they have verified their identity, is dependant on whether they are also a director. Director PSCs must notify Companies House that they are verified within 14 days of the company’s confirmation statement date and Non-Director PSCs must confirm they are verified within 14 days of the beginning of their birth month. Please note if you are a director and PSC, you’ll need to provide confirmation that you are verified separately for each role and if you are a director or PSC of more than one company, you will need to confirm that you are verified for each company.
Identity verification can be easily carried out yourself, free of charge, via the following link:

Alternatively, HATS are an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) so we can assist clients with verifying their identity if they would rather not do it themselves.
Once verified, Companies House will issue you with a code (an 11-character code) which will be personal to you, not to your company and should be retained safely and only shared with trusted people who file on your behalf, such as accountants. This code is then used to confirm your identity has been verified so you will only need to verify your identity once.
